One day so long ago, God gave Betty the burden
to search for her friend Grace.
Betty didn't know why she had to hunt her down
but she did and found her in an estate she'd
never been to.
She didn't know her friend was fully blown AIDS
and was depressed and had not accepted it.
Hadn't told anyone and even enstranged herself
from her family.
So one hot day after crisscrossing Nairobi
looking for grace, Betty showed up at Graces
doorstep.
They say the rest is history.

Today is World AIDS day..
Thank you for intervening in 2006..for insisting
that the doctor do something..anything...
for calling my mum
& taking care of me & my kids...
for coming for me in that rain storm..
& throwing me into that hot shower...
& feeding me liver..(no longer yuk!)
for those wonderful holidays together
for taking me to look for my Dad..
and becoming his third daughter!
for holding my hand so many times
and lifting my spirits
for giving me dinity
& never ever giving up on me..
Thank you for being my friend
fighting the stigma
and giving me hope to run this race..

HOPE LASTS LONGER. THAN AIDS!
