Thieves and Robbers Wear Gucci

A man with no roots is easily blown away by the wind whichever way it blows. What are your believing in today?
Below is an excerpt from The Desire of Ages, Ellen G. White first published in 1898. The fact that its this old, and yet holds truths applicable to date, there must be some valid truth to it. My thoughts are in brackets.
In all ages, philosophers and teachers have been presenting to the world theories by which to satisfy the souls needs.(my mind travels to self help programmes, the internet et al) Every ... nation has had its great teachers and religions offering some other means of redemption than Christ turning the eyes of men away from ... God's face and filling their hearts with fear (fear they say is often a manifestation of the unknown) of Him who has only given them blessing (yet sadly in their eyes they believe its their own accomplishments or luck or the stars). The trend of their work is to rob God of that which is His own, both by creation and redemption. And these false teachers rob man as well (self help programs that preach you don't have to be accountable for your actions. Do it for as long as it feels good). Millions of human beings are bound down under false religions, in the bondage of slavish fear, of stolid indifference, toiling like beasts of burden, bereft of hope or joy or aspiration here and with only a dull fear of the hereafter (consuming meetings and projects where nothing else matters at whatever cost). It is the gospel of the grace of God alone that can uplift the soul as nothing else can. Christ came that He might recreate the image of God in man; and whoever turns men away from Christ is turning them away from the source of true development; they are defrauding them of the hope and purpose and glory of life. They are a thief and a robber.
